*Do not collect or ship on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, only collect and ship Monday through Thursday.
Open the individual collection package that contains the swab and Viral Transport Medium tube. Set the tube aside before beginning to collect the specimen.
Open the collection swab wrapper by peeling open the top of the wrapper. Remove the swab, taking care not to touch the tip of the swab or lay it down.
Hold the swab in your hand, placing your thumb and forefinger in the middle of the swab shaft across the scoreline.
Tilt your head back 70 degrees. While gently rotating the swab, insert swab less than one inch into nostril (until resistance is met at turbinates).
Rotate the swab several times against nasal wall and repeat in other nostril the same swab.
While holding the swab in the same hand, aseptically remove the cap from the tube. Insert the swab into the tube with the transport medium.
Identifying the scoreline, break the swab shaft against the side of the tube. If needed, gently rotate the swab shaft to complete the breakage. Discard the top portion of the swab shaft. Avoid splashing contents on the skin. Wash with soap and water if exposed.
Replace the cap onto the tube and close tightly. Place the tube inside the specimen bag along with your Req Form. Then place the specimen bag into the test kit, then place kit into UPS shipping bag. Ship via UPS on the same day the swab was collected.
*Do not forget to place the requisition form in your kit. If the specimen is received without a requisition form, it will not be processed*
