ALPHA-2-MACROGLOBULIN | |
|---|---|
| Test Code:P203 | Specimen Collection:Serum |
| Component: Alpha-2-Macroglobulin | Method: NEPH |
| Collection Notes:Avoid hemolyzed specimens. | |
| Clinical Utility:Patients with acute pancreatitis exhibit low serum concentrations which correlate with the severity of the disease. Acute myocardial infarction patients with low ?2-macroglobulin concentrations have a significantly better prognosis with regard to the > 1 year survival time. The assay of ?2-macroglobulin is of major significance for the differential diagnosis of nephrotic syndrome. Here, an elevated ?2-macroglobulin/albumin ratio is indicative of post-renal hematuria. In patients with liver cirrhosis and diabetes the levels of ?2-macroglobulin are found to be elevated. | |
