High Performance Liquid Chromatography with
Norepinephrine Electrochemical Detection

Collection Notes: Overnight fasting is required. Alcohol, coffee, tea, tobacco, and strenuous exercise should be avoided prior to collection. Draw specimen in a pre-chilled, green top vacutainer. Immediately place green top tub in an ice bath. Centrifuge 20 minutes at 1000 XG. The plasma must be free of RBCs. Specimen must be transported frozen on dry ice.
Clinical Utility: The measurement of circulating catecholamines is useful in the diagnosis of catecholamine secreting tumors associated with hypertension.
