Collection Notes: Overnight fasting is required. Alcohol, coffee, tea, tobacco, and strenuous exercise should be avoided prior to collection. After urine collection, add 6N HCl to maintain a pH below 3. Specimen should be transported at room temperature.
Clinical Utility: The measurement of circulating catecholamines is useful in the diagnosis of catecholamine secreting tumors associated with hypertension.
