Collection Notes: Collect specimen in a Serum Trace Metal or Plasma EDTA Trace Metal tube. Serum or plasma must be separated from cells within two hours. Transfer to a metal-free transport tube. Hemolyzed serum or plasma are not acceptable.
Clinical Utility: Copper measurement is useful for the diagnosis of Wilson’s disease, primary biliary cirrhosis, and primary sclerosing cholangitis.
