Collection Notes:Patient should avoid taking antihistamines, oral corticosteroids and substances that block H2 receptors 24-hours before collection. Centrifuge specimen immediately and aliquot plasma to a plastic screw-cap vial. Hemolyzed or lipemic specimens are not acceptable. Specimen must be transported frozen.
Clinical Utility:Histamine is involved in the inflammatory response and has a central role as a mediator of itching.
