| Collection Notes:Collect as a trough just before the next dose. Plasma should be physically separated from cells as soon as possible with a maximum limit of 2 hours from the time of collection. Centrifuge and physically separate the plasma using a plastic transfer pipette into a separate plastic transfer tube. | |
| Clinical Utility:Phenobarbital is used for the long-term treatment of grand mal seizures and cortical focal seizures. Levels are monitored to assure adequate therapeutic levels are achieved and to avoid toxicity. | |
